Motherhood can feel isolating, especially in a city as vast and fast-paced as Los Angeles. Between the daily demands of parenting, the pressure to "bounce back", and the challenge of maintaining a sense of self, it's easy to feel lost in the shuffle. But you don't have to navigate this journey alone.
At The Mother Hood, we offer group therapy for moms at every stage of the parenting journey — because we believe that community is a powerful catalyst for healing and growth. Whether you're preparing for motherhood, deep in the trenches of the early years, or parenting school-age children, our support groups provide a safe, nurturing space to share your experiences, learn new tools, and remember that you're not in this alone.
Why Group Therapy for Moms
When you become a mother, everything changes — your body, your identity, your relationships, and your place in the world. While this transformation is profound and beautiful, it can also be deeply challenging. Many new moms feel a sense of loss, confusion, or overwhelm as they navigate this new terrain.
Group therapy offers a unique opportunity to process these feelings in community with others who truly understand. In a Mother Hood support group, you'll connect with moms who are in a similar season of life, facing similar joys and struggles. Together, you'll explore the complexities of motherhood, develop new coping strategies, and build a network of support that extends beyond the group itself.
Our group therapy sessions are led by experienced clinicians who specialize in maternal mental health. They create a warm, non-judgmental environment where you can show up exactly as you are — no pretending, no apologizing. Through guided discussions, experiential exercises, and evidence-based practices, you'll gain insight, tools, and the reminder that you are not alone.
The Power of Shared Experience
One of the most healing aspects of group therapy is the realization that you are not the only one struggling. In a culture that often idealizes motherhood, it's easy to feel like you're falling short if you're not blissed out and "glowing". But the reality is that motherhood is messy, complex, and filled with both light and shadow.
In a Mother Hood support group, you'll hear other moms share stories that resonate deeply with your own. You'll nod in recognition, laugh in solidarity, and perhaps even cry with relief at being truly seen and understood. This shared experience is profoundly normalizing and empowering.
You'll also learn from the wisdom and insights of other moms. Each member brings a unique perspective and set of life experiences. By witnessing and engaging with each other's journeys, you'll gain new insights, ideas, and inspiration. You might discover a new way of looking at a problem, or a new approach to self-care. You'll cheer each other on, lift each other up, and remind each other of your innate strength and resilience.
Accessible, Affordable Support
We believe that every mother deserves access to quality mental health support. But we also know that individual therapy can be cost-prohibitive for many families. Group therapy offers a more affordable alternative, without compromising on the quality of care.
At The Mother Hood, we offer a variety of group therapy options to fit different schedules, budgets, and needs. Whether you're looking for a short-term group to process a specific issue, or an ongoing group for long-term support, we have an option for you.
Our Current Group Offerings
We are continuously developing new group offerings to meet the diverse needs of Los Angeles moms. Here's a look at one of our current groups:
Lost and Found: Reconnecting with Yourself in Motherhood
Becoming a parent changes everything—including your relationship with yourself. This group is for moms who love their children deeply but feel like parts of themselves have gone quiet or disappeared altogether. Together, we'll create space to explore who you are now, what you've lost, and what you want to reclaim.
In "Lost and Found," mothers one year into their parenting journey gather to reconnect with themselves. This nurturing group experience goes beyond surface-level self-care, helping you understand who you've become and envision who you want to be.
Through guided discussions, creative exercises, and mindfulness practices, you'll:
Explore your identity as a mother and as an individual
Process the losses and gains of motherhood
Reconnect with your body, your desires, and your sense of self
Develop tools for self-compassion and self-care
Build a community of supportive, like-minded moms
